On the Decline...

Many species are on the verge of extinction as a result of climate change...

The polar bear is facing the threat of extinction unless global warming stops.

Arctic sea icebergs are melting at an alarming rate of 9% per decade.

  Polar  bears

The polar bear depends on the floating sea icebergs to hunt, but climate change is causing them to melt.

Polar bears inhabit the entire Arctic region, and they have adapted to live both on land and in the    sea.

   Orang Utans

Asia's only ape -the orang utan- has become an endangered species, mainly because of climate change.

It inhabits the rainforests of Indonesia, which are being threatened by climate change.

Global warming is increasing the risk of drought in these forests, and bushfires are occurring more often.

It is feared that this species could be facing extinction within a few decades unless the rate of global warming slows.

   Tigers

Experts estimate there are as few as 3,200 tigers left in the wild, and this number is decreasing rapidly.

Poaching, loss of habitat and climate change threaten this species.

Some of the largest remaining areas  inhabited by tigers are the mangrove forests of India.

The  rise in sea levels due to global warming could cause the tiger's habitat to vanish altogether.

North Atlantic Right Whale

The lack of plankton in the oceans means the whales have less food. As a result the species is on the decline.

As little as 300 to 350 individual whales still exist in the wild, and unfortunately there is little hope of population growth.

The North Atlantic Right Whale is one of the most endangered of all large whales.

Global warming is heating the oceans, and the warmer water is unable to hold as much plankton, the whale's food.
